Looking for a new best mate?

We’re pretty proud of our matchmaking skills and love helping families find the perfect match for them!

Have a look at the cats advertised on this page, read their bios, and if you think your home could be perfect for them, then please get in touch to organise a day and time to meet them.

Adoption appointments at our Glenview (Hamilton) based cattery are available between 11am and 6pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Why adopt from The Pawphanage?

  • We’re a small team.  The people doing adoption appointments also clean the cattery, administer meds, do the admin etc.  We spend a lot of time with the residents so we get to know them really well.  This means we’re really good at finding the perfect match for your whānau and lifestyle.

  • The Pawphanage operates on a capacity for care model and we’re not a fan of doing the bare minimum for our residents.  This means that we will only take in animals that we have the resources to care for really well during their stay.  Every cat adopted frees up space for another cat or kitten in need, and their adoption fee helps pay the bills.

  • We keep thorough records and are up front about any previous health conditions or illness.  We can tell you every single medication that was administered to a cat while in our care and have veterinary clinical histories for all of them.  It’s important to us that prospective adoptive parents are fully informed throughout the adoption process and we won’t choose not to disclose something just to get another cat out the door.

  • Everybody has the same small adoption fee ($200), regardless of their 'cute factor', or what we’ve spent on them.  Adopting is much cheaper than getting a free kitten and paying retail veterinary prices for desexing, vaccination, and microchipping yourself.

  • We’re their safety net.  We’ll take back any of our adopted cats for any reason.  If your circumstances change and you’re no longer able to care for them, they’re always welcome back.

We're looking for homes and we're

  • Health checked (standard, non exhaustive)
  • Desexed
  • Microchipped and registered on NZCAR
  • Vaccinated (at least the first core vaccination)
  • Up to date with worm and flea treaments
  • Eligible for a post adoption courtesy health insurance policy (if under 6 years old)
